Online gaming may be banned but Cyprus hosts WPT Season 11

Even though the Cypriot parliament recently banned exchange betting and online gambling, which effectively means citizens of Cyprus cannot play online poker, the Merit Crystal Cove Casino and Resort will be hosting Season 11 of the World Poker Tour.

It will commence on 4th August with the World Poker Tour Merit Cyprus Classic $4,000 main event, with a $400 buy-in. The main event, which carries a $1,000,000 guarantee, will run over six days and the final table will be shown live on 9th August at1 pm local time.

A large selection of side events

As well as the main event, Season 11 of the World Poker Tour offers a host of side events. These include a $400,000 guaranteed $2,500 + $200 no-limit hold’em tournament, a $2,000 + $200 Merit Special event with a guaranteed $200,000 and a $300 + $40 buy-in, $75,000 guaranteed no-limit hold’em event. On top of this, there are satellites into the main event and a variety of cash games on offer, varying in format and limits. All these begin on 1st August.

Last, food and drink are included for the duration of the event.

Other attractions on offer

Anyone requiring a break from the event can relax with a range of other activities at the Merit Crystal Cove Casino. For those attending the Classic and wanting to play a hole or two, there is the 18-hole Korineum Golf Course nearby.

Poker players who fancy a round of golf can also challenge Matt Savage, the Tournament Director, who will be on the green on 3rd August. Another bonus for card players is that the surrounding area also provides a variety of beaches and an energetic nightlife, where they can relax and have fun.
