Manila is to host Asia’s biggest ever high roller event today, 20th April.  With a buy-in of HKD $1 million (USD $129,000) the Asian Poker Tour and Resorts World Manila will launch a new ‘Manila Millions’ poker tournament at Resorts World Manila, making it the largest buy-in tournament Asia has ever seen.

Held at the deluxe Genting Club it is expected that 25-30 players will participate.  Several top players having already said they will be attending, including Phil Ivey and Tom “durrrr” Dwan, but more are expected to announce their involvement soon.

The Manila Millions is designed to be central to the Genting Poker League and is only one of several planned poker initiatives. Mr Mr Hakan Dagtas, VP of Casino Operations for Resorts World Manila (RWM) has said that Resorts World and the Genting Group are committed to the growth of poker in Asia.  “We have the perfect combination for growth, particularly in the Philippines,” he commented, “a fast developing poker scene that can also offer players some of the very best internationally recognised beaches, resorts and recreational activities all within easy commute.”

Less than three years old RWM has quickly provided players with some of the best cash and tournament games in the area and has evolved to become one of the busiest poker rooms in the region.  The APT and RWM are set to make history again with ‘Manila Millions’ and with such a large buy-in the Philippines will be set firmly on the poker map.  The CEO of the APT, Jeff Mann, said: “the APT is excited to once again be working with Resorts World Manila to make it all possible.”

The whole event will run from 19th April – 25th April, culminating in the Main Event with a USD $2700 buy-in.
